On May 5th, Brewmaster Kevin Kozak received the GOLD AWARD  at the Brewers’ Association World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA for FSB Spring Brew in the Belgian and French Style Ale category.

Brewers from around the world received awards from an elite international panel of judges in the 2012 Brewers Association World Beer Cup in San Diego, CA. The ninth bi-annual competition boasted the strongest field of entrants on record, with 799 breweries from 54 countries and 45 U.S. states entering 3,921 beers in 95 beer style categories. The entries were eligible for gold, silver and bronze awards in their respective categories.

Kozak received a Gold Award for FSB Spring Brew in the Belgian and French Style Ale category. The Gold Award signifies the Spring Brew was judged the world’s best beer in its category. This is the first year Front Street Brewery has entered beer into the competition. FSB Spring Brew also recently won another Gold Medal at the Carolina Championship of Beers in Hickory, NC which is comprised of entrants from the Carolinas, Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee.

A Heavenly Homebrew Competition of Churches for Charity

Front Street Brewery will host a homebrew competition to bring together brewers from local churches for a charitable cause.  The goal is to brew great beer and raise money for Hospice, while embodying a historical Christian attitude towards the moderate use of alcohol as a blessing from God.  Front Street’s Assistant Brewer, Christopher McGarvey, MDiv, is a recent seminary graduate and cantor at St. Basil the Great Orthodox Church.

Beginning March 6^th, he will host a series of free beginner brewing classes Tuesdays at the brewery, 6 to 8 pm.  Classes will cover the basics of brewing technique and equipment, and the relationship between Christianity and brewing, in history and theology.  Church brewing teams will submit their beers to be judged in September, and the winning beer will be unveiled to the public at a grand release tapping in November.
