Enter to win our 2012 Lower Cape Fear Homebrewers’ Competition! If you are a local homebrewer and have a winning brew, fill out the form provided and drop off your entry between February 1st and Friday, February 10th. Brewmaster Kevin Kozak and his staff, along with a few guest judges, will be judging the competition and announcing the winners on February 18th at 7pm. You must enter the competition to gain access to the award ceremony. (You may bring ONE guest and one guest only. This is due to the number of people that enter the competition and our Fire Code restrictions.)

The cost to enter is $20 per beer and you may enter as many styles as you like.

Make checks payable to Front St. Brewery. Deadline for entries is Friday, February 10th 2012.

Prizes will be awarded for 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd place in each category above, as well as one overall Best of Show award.  Beers will be judged on Saturday, February 18th, with the awards ceremony following, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Front St. Brewery.  The Best in Show beer will be brewed and distributed locally by the Front St. Brewery. Requirements:  One 6-pack of 12-oz plain brown unmarked bottles or the equivalent, i.e., growlers, flip-tops, etc.  If kegs are entered, all dispensing equipment must also be provided and will be returned.  Each entry must include this completed form, and each bottle must have the below completed bottle forms cut out and attached with rubber band – not with tape or other adhesive.

A note about the Homebrewer’s Competition from our Brewers:

It is highly recommended that when entering a beer into the competition that the “special instructions” line on the entry form is used to put the BJCP category that you would have entered the beer into if it were a competition setup that way. If you’re not familiar with the BJCP guidelines then a quick google search of BJCP guidelines will help you out. The reason we use such broad categories is to simplify the process of awarding medals, organizing the entries and also speeding up the judging process for the limited amount of judges we have to judge the beer.

We have had many issues in the past where a good tasting beer was entered with no additional information provided.  The name “Big Dog Amber” doesn’t tell us much about the beer.  Is it an ESB,  an American Amber or an Altbier?  If you put that you would have entered it as an American Amber under BJCP category 10B then the judge will have all the parameters in front of he or she to judge the beer correctly and efficiently.  If you have any further questions please send an email to either email address below.  Thank you.
