Comedies about Winners and Losers
The Buck Johnson Story
The Buck Johnson Story is a wild comedy where a writer struggles with his redneck main character. He must overcome his multiple distractions and find inspiration in order to meet his deadline. Doctored coffees, shots from “the saddle”, and flying babies collide for this surreal writer’s tale.
Half Empty
“Half Empty” is a hilarious musical about the eternal optimist –in this case, a self-help book writer who goes to Germany mistakenly thinking he’s popular there. Instead of an adoring audience, he finds himself adrift in a world of jaded misanthropes, including the woman who is supposed to be his publicist. His attempts to make friends—in scenes that are largely improvised—lead to one great encounter after another when he is verbally abused by nihilistic musicians, gruff gangsters, etc. In time, he manages to win over his publicist—both her heart and her mind–but his own world view is shaken when his hero, a much more popular self-help writer, turns out to be not quite what he seems. The action is punctuated by several musical numbers.

Comedies About The Workplace:
(Short) Suit Yourself
Jabez Film Productions is proud to present their new short film, Suit Yourself. Inspired by a true story, Suit Yourself follows Jack and his unconventional family as they strive to make his one simple dream come true: to wear a suit to work. Challenged by his autism and sometimes quirky ways, finding a job at all isn’t easy. But with force of will and a little luck, the family discovers that sometimes the best solution is the one you’re not looking for—and that some dreams are meant to come true no matter what. Ultimately, Jack finds what suits him best. Filmed entirely in Wrightsville Beach and Wilmington, North Carolina with the new RED Rock micro cinema-lens adaptor and a Panasonic HVX 200A high performance camera, Suit Yourself features the look of 35mm with the flexibility of digital technology, allowing for quick shooting and editing in a variety of locations, rain and shine. With the support and collaboration of several professional individuals and organizations, such as Rendered Communications and Appsro Editing, Suit Yourself is a project of the heart and an example of the kind of inspiring work Jabez Film Productions specializes in.
(Feature) Dead End Job
Think you’ve made the wrong career choice? Meet Robert Monroe. After being fired from his job at a video game store, he is given an ultimatum by his girlfriend, Jenn; get a real job or hit the road. With the help of his roommate, Jacob, he will pound the pavement to find anything that will keep Jenn from leaving him. A chance visit to the R & A office lands him a job that could just be the death of him. A tongue-in-cheek dark comedy and first feature film from writer/director William Lilly. Starring Tim Rogus, Lee Armstrong, Carl Guthrie, Jessica Long, and Richard Gaither.

Mugs for Jugs

Mugs for Jugs, Front Street Brewery’s Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Fundraiser, was a HUGE success! With such a wonderful outpouring from our downtown community, we were able to raise a couple grand and lend a helping hand! All of the net profits from Mugs for Jugs benefit The New Hanover Regional Medical Foundation and The Pink Ribbon Project. These organizations provide care baskets to local women recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer and provide mammograms to women who otherwise couldn’t afford them.
Thanks so much to all of our participating sponsors, donors, friends, survivors and beer drinkers!
We will see you again next year!
